StateWise A sales trend running under a limit line and breaking through it. StateWise

For US sellers on Shopify and a marketplace

Shopify only counts Shopify sales.

If you also sell on Amazon, Etsy, eBay or Walmart, your real sales tax exposure is bigger than the number in your admin. Most US states count marketplace sales toward the threshold that forces you to register, even though the marketplace already collected the tax on them. You are the only one holding all the channels.

Installs from your Shopify admin. Read-only access to orders, and nothing else.

One seller, the same orders, measured twice

A fictional business doing about $1.4M a year across Shopify, Amazon, Etsy and eBay. Switch between what Shopify can see and what StateWise sees once the marketplace exports are in.

Nothing has crossed a threshold. The closest is Washington, at 48% of its $100,000 line.

Washington crossed on March 12, 2026, and three more states since. Four thresholds met, three states approaching. Same orders as tab 1.

Every dollar here is a Shopify order. This is the view a tool that can only see one channel gives you, and it is the view that reads clean.

Look at Florida and Arizona. Both took in more than $100,000 once every channel is counted, and StateWise still says monitoring, because neither state counts marketplace sales toward your own threshold. Warning you there would be telling you to register where you do not have to.

Every number opens up

A verdict you cannot check is a verdict you cannot act on, and the person you forward it to will ask.

Show the math

Every figure expands to the orders behind it: date, channel, amount, and whether it counted. Beside it, the rule in plain English, the window the state measures, the source link, and the date we last checked it.

The date, under the rule in force then

Crossings are dated and replayed against the rule version that applied at the time, not today's. Kentucky drops its 200-transaction test on 1 August 2026, and a crossing under the old rule was still a crossing.

Both numbers, always

What you shipped into the state and the subset the state actually measures, on every screen and in every export, including where they are the same. One constructor builds the pair, so no surface can render one without the other.

Nothing quietly dropped

Test orders, cancellations, pickups, digital goods, no-address, international, non-USD: each excluded with a reason, a count and a dollar amount. Orders that look like one sale on two channels are flagged and never silently merged.

Inventory counts, with no threshold at all

Amazon moves FBA stock between states without asking you. Flag a state and it reads as nexus regardless of sales, which is what physical presence means and what a dollar-only tool misses.

A document your accountant can use

PDF and CSV. Every jurisdiction with both numbers, the window, the crossing date, the rule version that produced it, the citation and the date it was verified. Not a screenshot.

When sources disagree, so do we

Where published sources genuinely conflict on a state's rule, you get both readings and both resulting verdicts side by side, with the disagreement named. StateWise does not quietly pick one and hand you a single confident number.

We never see your customers

StateWise reads where an order shipped, what it was worth and when. Never a name, an email address, a phone number, a street address or a postal code. The complete list of fields is in the privacy policy.

Three steps to a populated map

  1. InstallFrom your Shopify admin, with read-only access to orders.
  2. Add your marketplacesDrop in the order export CSV from Amazon, Etsy, eBay or Walmart. No API keys to find.
  3. Read the mapEvery state, both numbers, and the rule behind each verdict.
