What each state actually measures, when its rule changed, and the arithmetic behind a threshold. Every rule we state carries the date we last verified it and a link to the source.
- How far back StateWise can see, and what happens past the edge
Shopify hands back about 24 months of order history, which answers most states' threshold question and cannot answer all of them. What that floor covers, where it runs out, and how to see further.
2026-08-13 - The marketplace already collected the tax. In most states, the sale still counts
Amazon, Etsy, eBay and Walmart collect and remit sales tax on your behalf. In 28 of the 48 jurisdictions we monitor, those same sales still count toward your own registration threshold, and in two of the rest the published sources cannot be reconciled.
2026-08-13 - New York needs both numbers, and its year does not start in January
New York is one of two states where crossing the dollar threshold is not enough on its own. It takes $500,000 AND 100 transactions, measured over four quarters that are not calendar quarters, and getting either half wrong moves the answer.
2026-08-13 - Nine jurisdictions deleted a rule you may have already crossed
Nine states have deleted their 200-transaction sales tax rule since 2023. If you crossed under one of them, you crossed. A repeal does not reach backwards, and a tool that only knows today's rule cannot see it.
2026-08-10 - Two states where we refuse to give you one number
In Massachusetts and Louisiana, credible sources disagree about whether your Amazon sales count toward your own registration threshold. We show you both answers instead of picking one, and this is why.
2026-08-10 - How StateWise counts your sales
Exactly how StateWise turns your Shopify and marketplace orders into a per-state number: what it counts, what it leaves out and says so, which clock it uses, and why it shows you two numbers instead of one.
2026-08-06 - What StateWise reads, and what it ignores
The complete list of what StateWise reads from your store, the list of what it never reads, and why the second list is enforced by the app's access level rather than promised in a document.
2026-08-06 - Kentucky just deleted its 200-transaction sales tax rule. Here is the arithmetic.
Kentucky removed its 200-transaction economic nexus test on August 1, 2026. What that changes, who it helps, and why a crossing that already happened does not reverse.

Every state's threshold
One page per jurisdiction: what it measures, over what period, whether marketplace sales count toward your own threshold, and the source with the date we last checked it. The same rules in one table are at /thresholds.
